What is a Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies degree?

Earn a Bachelor of Arts in Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies at St. Ambrose University, where you’ll explore gender and sexuality, diversity, equity, and justice. Our interdisciplinary program delves into our socially constructed realities and systems of injustice and celebrates contributions from a diversity of perspectives.  Through coursework, research, and community engagement, students gain the knowledge, skills, and empathy to make change for equity and justice in their community, workplace, and lives.

Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies (JDG) is an interdisciplinary program that equips students to be creative problem solvers and ethical leaders prepared to thrive in diverse, cross-cultural settings with openness and respect. Students are empowered as advocates, and graduates enter the workforce prepared to mobilize people for common action in organizations, agencies, and communities.

What you’ll learn in your Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies program

St. Ambrose University's Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies program teaches students to understand how social locations impact our lives, to analyze intersecting oppressions related to human difference, and to examine just action for social change. The JDG curriculum covers three areas: gender and sexuality, diversity and the human experience, and justice and social changemaking.

Graduates of the Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies program will: 

  • Articulate how the construction of social identities is linked to injustice
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diverse theories in order to understand our social worlds
  • Describe the contributions and importance of marginalized voices
  • Analyze factors that create and sustain injustice
  • Identify tools to promote meaningful social change

  • This degree will require you to complete a total of 120 credits.
  • You will complete 36 core curriculum credits, 30 credits in Justice, Diversity, and Gender Studies, 54 elective credits, and 1 capstone course.
