Social Justice Is My Ambrosian Value

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Class of 2014

Tim believes his Ambrosian experience made him a better communicator and a better person. With us, you get an education based in the Liberal Arts and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, which means we place a high value on inquiry, discussion, diversity, engagement, social justice and your success – now and in the future.

Why SAU?

Academic Excellence

“The Communication Department offers so many opportunities to apply our craft, and the dedicated staff was always willing to work you through a problem. That left me better prepared to face future challenges.” Whether your goal is to anchor the news, work for NPR or as a newspaper journalist, our programs are taught by experienced media and communication faculty who want to help you to succeed, no matter your dream.

How did you grow within the SAU community?

"The emphasis on critical thinking and asking questions enriched my SAU experience and were vital to my success. I was challenged to see the world from new perspectives." SAU professors stressed the importance of understanding the larger world, and Tim wrote about social justice issues as a student reporter for 'The Buzz.' Today, he remains committed to making a difference. As a volunteer, Timothy is helping rebrand a local nonprofit that serves the poor.

What about SAU made your college education worthwhile?

Tim gained so much more than a textbook education. "St. Ambrose has an immensely talented staff that knows their craft well. I gained a lot in terms of raw knowledge of communications. However, the staff at Ambrose also helped me understand what I was capable of and I left there feeling no matter the challenges ahead, I was ready to face them. In fact, the faculty still do that for me every time I reach out," he says.

How did we prepare you for graduate school?

Attentive Education

"The successes I had during graduate school at Purdue can be directly attributed to the foundations built at St. Ambrose University. The quality of the staff at St. Ambrose was paramount: no other characteristic of my undergraduate education was nearly as important in determining my future achievements. I am forever thankful for it," he says.
