St. Ambrose University has honored Nick Nguyen, user services and desktop support specialist, with the 2026 Presidential Award for Staff Excellence. The award recognizes staff members whose daily work demonstrates exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to the university community.

In announcing the award, Amy Novak, EdD, president of St. Ambrose University, described Nguyen as a trusted and dependable presence whose work supports students, faculty, and staff across campus every day.

“In a university community that depends every day on technology, connectivity, security, and responsive support, this individual has become a trusted and valued presence for students, faculty, and staff alike,” Novak said during the award presentation.

Nguyen was recognized for his calm and solution-focused approach when responding to urgent technology challenges. Whether addressing network issues or troubleshooting devices, colleagues say he approaches each situation with professionalism and care. His work also plays an important role in protecting the university’s network and digital security.

Novak praised Nguyen’s wide-ranging technical expertise in areas including networking, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, device maintenance, and university systems. Colleagues say what sets him apart is not only his knowledge, but also his willingness to continually learn and adapt when faced with unfamiliar challenges.

“When faced with an unfamiliar platform or problem, he does not step away from the challenge,” Novak shared. “He learns it, masters it, and finds a way forward.”

Across campus, Nguyen is known for his responsiveness and commitment to helping others. Rather than simply solving a problem and moving on, he takes time to explain issues and help users feel more confident navigating technology. Colleagues describe him as approachable, patient, and genuinely invested in supporting others.

Novak also highlighted Nguyen’s sense of urgency and dedication to service, noting that he can often be seen hurrying across campus to respond when assistance is needed.

“He understands that behind every technology issue is a person trying to teach a class, serve a student, complete important work, or keep the university moving forward,” Novak said.

Colleagues say Nguyen’s tireless support has made him an invaluable member of the St. Ambrose community. His consistent problem-solving and willingness to help others reflect a deep commitment to the mission and daily life of the university.

The Presidential Award for Staff Excellence recognizes individuals whose work strengthens the St. Ambrose community through service, leadership, and care for others. Through his dedication and support, Nguyen continues to make a lasting impact on campus each day.
