What you’ll learn in your History Teacher Education Program

You’ll start by taking foundational courses in history. Then, you’ll explore education courses where you’ll build an understanding of learner development, learning differences, and learning environments. When you’re done, you’ll be prepared to become a fully licensed teacher in the State of Iowa.

  • Understanding of teaching expectations and responsibilities
  • Exploration of the impact of diversity on learning
  • Mastery of historical practice, including research, analysis, and writing
  • Examination of world wars using a global focus
  • Creation of an original historical essay

Explore History Teacher Education Courses

  • Complete a total of 120 credits, including 42 gen ed credits, 38 credits in history, 32-41 education credits, and 0-8 elective credits. 
  • Complete 140 hours of pre-student teaching field experiences at two different school sites, 1 semester of student teaching, and 1 capstone course.
