Christopher Cox told a crowd of more than 100 people that they can make an impact on the lives of garment workers.
Cox is the campaign manager for The Human Thread campaign, which is working to rally Catholics to advocate for garment workers, many who work in substandard conditions for little pay. During a March 2 presentation at St. Ambrose University, he told the audience that awareness and activism can make a difference.
According to a story in The Catholic Messenger, garment workers make up the largest percentage of human trafficking victims working in compelled labor. Some make as little as $4 an hour in factories in and outside the U.S.
Cox encouraged everyone to get involved, to ask questions, share information and shop Fair Trade products.
