The spring mainstage show at St. Ambrose University never fails to dazzle an audience, and this year the musical Little Women was no different.
This heartwarming and lively show was wildly successful and perfectly showcased all the talents that the students from the St. Ambrose University Theatre Department have built this year.
A musical version of the beloved children's book by Louisa May Alcott, this show follows the life of the brilliant and aspirational Jo March. Throughout the play, Jo navigates the world of professional writing, love, and growing up with sisters who she both adores and has the occasional squabble with.
Since the Theatre Department is mostly constructed of phenomenal female singers at the moment, this show was a perfect ending to the season. The four iconic sisters were played by junior Quinnie Rodman as Jo March, Junior Katie Link as Amy March, First-year Julia Beltz as Beth March, and Senior Bethanay Anderson as Meg March. The cast also included:
- Senior Joseph Lasher as Laurie
- Junior Peyton Reese as Marmie
- First-year Caroline Sieren as Aunt March
- Sophomore Beckett Conwell as Mr. Lawrence
- Senior Kyle DeFauw as Professor Bhaer
- Junior Charles Murphy as Mr. Brooke
- Ensemble: Drew Dowda, Bella Kuta (high school), sophomore Jayden Labron, junior Faith McCubbin, first-year Megan Rohn, first-year Liz Saunders, and first-year Zachary Weih.
"Little Women"
A talented cast provided an incredible end to the 2021-22 season.
This production was the perfect way to end the 2021-2022 season. The acting, set, costumes, and special effects were spectacular. The audience was truly transported into the 1860's. Plus, the music blew everyone away. Some of the crowd's favorites were "Five Forever and Rodman's spectacular solo, "Astonishing". The SAU Theatre Department is blessed to have such angelic singers.
This show is also special to the Theatre Department because of the staff that worked on it. Many staff members are retiring and this is the last show that Johnson will ever direct here. Plus, this is the last show that Technical Director Kris Eitrhiem will ever be a part of, and the last show that Dianne Dye, the costume queen, will ever work on. All of them will be retiring at the end of the semester so the students have cherished these final moments with these staff members.
While Little Women is the last SAU production of the year, readers should still keep up with the Theatre Department's social media platforms to keep tabs on next year's shows. You may be able to catch some of the talented actors and artists that worked on Little Women in the future!
