Theatre Newsletter | March 2021
This month's First-Year Focus, Beckett Conwell, has a love for music and the performing arts which has led him to being no stranger to the stage.
Having performed in the Fresh Face Revue and getting cast in the student-directed one-act plays, Conwell has already proven to be an involved member in our department.
Originally from Princeton, Illinois, Conwell is a History and Theatre Major. He is a member of SAU's jazz band, marching band, and is one of the select Chamber Singers. Conwell is also a member of PRISM. Outside of his numerous school activities, he can be found writing, drawing, and participating in historical reenactments. He is glad to have chosen St. Ambrose, because he really enjoys the atmosphere here.
"I like the small size of the campus," said Conwell. "It makes getting to classes easy and it makes getting to know other people a bit easier."
Conwell began theatre his freshman year of high school by becoming a member of the pit and performing in some school plays, but by junior year he found himself exclusively performing on stage.
"My favorite role I've been in so far is Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Conwell said.

This month's First-Year Focus, Beckett Conwell, has a love for music and the performing arts which has led him to being no stranger to the stage.
At the moment though, Conwell is working on two projects. First, he is digging into his backstage knowledge as the props designer for the upcoming studio show, Admissions.
Second, he is preparing his selection for the upcoming Musical Theatre class Cabaret, which will premiere in March. The Theatre Department is certainly looking forward to witnessing his talents in the weeks to come.
While he is just a first year student, Conwell is already finding his niche. He is most definitely looking forward to more opportunities in our department once they start becoming available and everyone cannot wait to see where his path leads!
