Chemistry Club

SAU's Chemistry Club is an official student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

We meet monthly during the school year to plan activities such as making ice cream using liquid nitrogen and hosting speakers.

In past years, faculty speak at meetings about their research and alumni talk about their career paths. We hold Chemistry-themed trivia nights as well as special meetings for the Exploring Pizza Committee of the Chemistry Club (EPCCC). We typically pick a different local pizzeria each month and students and faculty meet for pizza and catch up outside of classes.

In addition, members do a lot of outreach:

  • help faculty with National Chemistry Week activities and demonstration shows;
  • run booths for the Introduce a Girl to Steam event and the Bettendorf Science Expo;
  • help organize and run the annual Illinois-Iowa American Chemical Society Undergraduate Research Conference on campus, which is held in conjunction with the local section of the ACS.
