Remembered for his big personality on campus, Luke Peterson, originated from the small town of Newhall, IA. Upon his spring graduation in 2021 with majors in both Theatre and Sociology, Peterson left the St. Ambrose University Theatre Department to pursue new adventures.

"I had a variety of different responsibilities with the St. Ambrose University Theatre Department," Peterson explained. "I was Director of the Theatre Appreciation Club, worked in the scene shop my freshman year, worked as Dr. Cory Johnson's work-study student from my sophomore to senior year, and was Editor-in-Chief of the St. Ambrose University Theatre Newsletter my senior year."

Peterson was involved in several performances here at St. Ambrose University. But by far, his favorite was Rumors during his sophomore year.

"That cast will always hold a special place in my heart," Peterson said. "Despite the unprecedented challenges that faced the production, it was such a cathartic feeling to be able to laugh with close friends throughout the entire process."

Looking back on his time here at St. Ambrose University, Peterson was able to recall many fond memories. Specifically, the Theatre Appreciation Club (TAC) trip to Chicago.

"Some highlights included excellent productions at both the Steppenwolf and Lookingglass Theatres, sightseeing the city with my pals Mel Maylum '20 and juniors Peyton Reese and Quinnie Rodman during the day, and hunting down a Subway restaurant at 11 p.m., so my pal Ellie Larson '21 could use the restroom," recalled Peterson. "A lot of memories were made on that trip."

Following his graduation, Peterson was hired as a resident artist of the 2021-22 season for CLIMB Theatre which is located Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota (near the Twin Cities).

"Whether it be our plays or our classes, all of CLIMB's programming is taught through the following 5 AREAS: Accountability, Resiliency, Empathy, Advocacy, and Self-Regulation," Peterson said. "It feels so great to be able to inspire the next generation of leaders by encouraging them to pursue acts of change that will positively affect themselves and their communities."

Peterson works as a resident artist at CLIMB Theatre near Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minnesota.

During his time here on campus, Peterson learned many lessons that he takes with him through his everyday life.

"College was undoubtedly stressful, as is working in the theatre industry, but this lesson has helped me in staying centered as I continue on my theatrical journey," Peterson stated. "I have no idea where this road will take me, but for the time being, as long as I continue to believe in my talents and abilities, I know everything will work out just how it's supposed to."

Peterson's new job is also providing him with knowledge about technology and management at the professional level which will strengthen his theatre skillset.

"In addition to being an actor at CLIMB, I have had to coil cables, set up and run QLab, measure throw distance for a projector, and send performance reports," Peterson said. "Coming in with prior knowledge of these skills by working as a Stage Manager, Director, and Sound Designer during my years at St. Ambrose University has not only made me a more well-rounded actor, but a more well-rounded artist as well."

Peterson is a great example for students in the theatre program. He shows everyone that with a little hard work and determination, you can achieve anything you set your mind to and he exhibits just how important a well-rounded theatre education is to overall success.
