Sexual Assault Awareness Team (SAAT)

The Sexual Assault Awareness Team (SAAT) raises awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence on campus and promotes healthy relationships. Our mission is to make sure all people have a safe campus free of violence.

We are an active group of students and advocates, ready to personally help victims and inform the campus and community about the impact of sexual assault and domestic violence. Here is a sampling of some of the activities we coordinate:

  • Walk a Mile is an international men's march to end violence against women all over the world. At SAU, men walk in women's shoes for one mile throughout campus. Traditionally held in April, this event celebrates the collaboration of all genders to end sexual assault and show it is not just a women's issue.
  • The Clothesline Project allows survivors of violence to break the silence that often surrounds personal violence, or for friends and family to honor someone who has experienced violence. Those who take part hang a shirt on a clothesline as a visual representation of statistics that are often ignored, and give voice to the many people that have previously been silenced.
  • Take Back the night is held to raise awareness and end violence of all forms, including sexual assault, sexual abuse, dating violence, and domestic violence. Take Back the Night is a march around campus followed by sharing of survivor stories that empower survivors in the healing process and inspires responsibility in all to stop the violence.
  • The Hunting Ground is a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses. It follows on the story of two survivors who filed a Title IX complaint after being assaulted, and how they turned their experience into activism. It also includes interviews with other survivors, their families, college administrators, and scholars about the issue of sexual assault on college campuses.
  • It's On Us campaign is a national campaign launched by the White House against sexual assault on college campuses. It encourages people to pledge a personal commitment to keep people safe from sexual violence.

If you would like to speak to an advocate, email or call the local crisis line at 866-921-3354 and ask for a St. Ambrose Advocate.

If you are looking for off-campus resources contact Family Resources Survivor Resources, a community-based program serving the needs of women, men, children, and families whose lives have been affected by domestic or sexual violence, human trafficking, or other violent crimes. Its mission is to create a community free of violence through education, counseling, and advocacy.
