Special services and facilities for students with disabilities

The Accessibility Resource Center exists to provide qualified students with disabilities services or reasonable accommodations intended to reduce the effects that a disability may have on their performance in a traditional academic setting. Any student can initiate a request for services. Register with the office and provide documentation of the disability. Our staff will help in selecting services that are an appropriate accommodation. Gainful employment

This information complies with U.S. Department of Education rules that require schools to report on students enrolled in Title IV-eligible (financial aid) educational programs that lead to gainful employment in a recognized occupation. SAU does not offer programs that qualify under these terms.

Study abroad

Enrolled St. Ambrose students participating in University-sanctioned programs abroad are eligible for federal financial aid, national scholarships, and, depending on the program, institutional grants. The Financial Aid Office provides information for students seeking aid for study abroad. Contact the Study Abroad office for more information.

Deferments for performed services

Borrowers in the Federal Stafford Loan Program may be eligible for deferred payment provisions for service in the Peace Corps, service under the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973, or comparable volunteer services for a tax exempt organization in community service. Borrowers should seek applications and detailed information from their lender or from Direct Loan Borrower Services.

Code of Conduct for Educational Loans

Iowa Code Section 261E.2 and the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, require the development, administration,
and enforcement of a code of conduct governing educational loan activities. University Officials and other organizations
associated with St. Ambrose University, agree to the provisions of the SAU Code of Conduct for Education Loans.

Drug and alcohol policies and prevention

St. Ambrose University therefore maintains and enforces alcohol and other drug policies consistent with federal, State of Iowa, and local laws. St. Ambrose University believes that alcohol and/or drug abuse is a significant health issue that is counterproductive to the pursuit of academic excellence.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) rules create a framework to protect the medical privacy of patients and health plan members. In general, HIPAA privacy regulations allow covered health care providers and health plans to share information for the purposes of treatment, payment, and health care operations. St. Ambrose University supports the goals of HIPAA and documents policies and procedures for securing protected health information in its policy.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. They include the right to: 1) inspect, review, and/or request an amendment to these records; 2) consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information in these records; 3) restrict disclosure of information designated as directory information that may be released without consent of the student; and 4) file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education for alleged failure by St. Ambrose University to comply with FERPA requirements.

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) provides St. Ambrose University with an annual IPEDS Data Feedback Report (DFR). The report is based on the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) data submitted by SAU during the annual IPEDS collection cycle. The concept of a common data set arose out of the demand placed on colleges and universities for large amounts of information from various external organizations.

The common data set is made up of a set of standards and definitions of data to help ensure that data is more likely to be reliable (consistent), valid (measure of what they are intended to measure), and accurate.

The information is provided in compliance with the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. While reviewing this information, please bear in mind:

  • The graduation/completion rate is based on 6 years of attendance, which equates to 150% of our longest program.
  • The graduation/completion rate does not include students who left the school to serve in the armed forces, on official church missions, or in the foreign service of the federal government. Students who died or were totally and permanently disabled are also excluded.
