Dr. Ann Garton holds the roles of Professor in Nursing at St. Ambrose University and Director of the University's Institute for Person-Centered Care. Her doctoral focus was within the global population health arena. She has spent her career in a multitude of settings, including acute care, healthcare administration, community care, and secondary and higher education.
Garton works towards creating environments supporting person-centered practices to improve the health and wellness of the community. Community health initiatives have been supported by Garton, including those in areas/populations such as community health assessment, COVID-19 planning, mental health, aging, refugees, and LGBTQ+. Garton serves on multiple community boards and coalitions, assisting in bringing alive the person-centered focus.
As a certified nurse educator, she has been instrumental in supporting diversity and inclusion at the university and has been recognized by her peers with the St Ambrose University Diversity, Inclusion, Equity Impact Award. She has launched one of the first jointly accredited continuing education podcast to support continuing education for the health and human service team. Dr. Garton has been recognized as a 100 Great Iowa Nurse and Fellow in Person-Centered Care by Planetree International®.
